Catch HCAI comments before HCAI does.
Upload the drawing set. Plan Check reviews it against Title 24 and Title 22 and returns reviewer-style comments in the same spreadsheet format HCAI uses — before the submission clock starts.
Request early accessThe problem: review cycles are the schedule
HCAI’s published turnaround goals are on the order of 80 days for a first structural review and 40 days per backcheck — and every comment that could have been caught in-house before submission risks another cycle. On a healthcare project, plan review isn’t a step in the schedule; for months at a time, it is the schedule.
Most of those comments are predictable. HCAI publishes its reviewers’ standard comment libraries by discipline and code year. A disciplined pre-submission check against the code and those libraries is exactly the kind of work software should be doing before a human reviewer ever opens the set.
How it works
- Upload the set
Drawings and specs for the submission, as you’d send them to HCAI.
- Automated review
The set is checked against Title 24 (CBC with HCAI amendments), Title 22, and the applicable building code edition for your project.
- Comments, in HCAI’s format
Findings come back as a comment spreadsheet in the structure that review teams already use — sheet references, code citations, discipline tabs — ready for internal QC and backcheck.
Plan Check is being built eval-first: measured against real plan sets and the actual comments those sets received in review — not against code text in the abstract. If it can’t demonstrably catch what reviewers catch, it doesn’t ship.
Who it’s for
Architecture and engineering teams submitting healthcare projects to HCAI, and the owners and owner’s reps whose schedules depend on those reviews clearing. New to the process? Start with our guide: The HCAI plan review process, explained.
Frequently asked questions
- Is ProjectOpsIQ affiliated with HCAI?
- No. ProjectOpsIQ is an independent software product with no affiliation, endorsement, or connection to the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) or any public agency. Plan Check is a pre-submission quality-control tool for design teams.
- Does Plan Check replace the official HCAI review?
- No. Every project still goes through HCAI's own review. Plan Check runs before you submit, so the set that reaches HCAI has fewer findable issues — the goal is fewer comments and fewer backcheck cycles, not skipping review.
- Which codes does it check against?
- The California Building Standards Code (Title 24, including the OSHPD/HCAI amendments) and Title 22 requirements applicable to healthcare facilities, for the code edition that applies to your project.
